Samuel Rodriques
And here's a bio: Sam Rodriques is Director and CEO of FutureHouse, a new non-profit AI-for-science research laboratory in San Francisco aimed at automating research in biology and other complex sciences. Prior to starting Future House, Sam ran the Applied Biotechnology Laboratory at the Francis Crick Institute, and invented several new biotechnologies, including a new nanofabrication method, a new approach to sensing neural activity with probes in the bloodstream, and new ways to extract spatial and temporal information from RNA sequencing. Sam was also one of the original architects of the Focused Research Organization model, which provides an alternative structure to scale up basic science projects outside of academia. Sam has co-founded four other companies, and obtained his PhD in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2019. He has received numerous national awards and fellowships to support his studies and recognize his research, including the 2022 Allen Distinguished Investigator Award, 2019 Stat Wunderkind award, and the Myhrvold and Havranek Family Charitable Fund Hertz Graduate Fellowship.

Automating Biology Research with an AI Scientist
-
What if the next breakthrough biologist isn’t human? In this spotlight talk, Sam Rodriques, founder of Future House, shares his vision for an AI scientist that can generate hypotheses, design experiments, and accelerate discovery in biology. As automation and machine learning reshape the scientific method, Future House is pioneering a new model for research—where algorithms, not just researchers, drive innovation. Join this session for a look inside the lab of the future, where biology is accelerated by intelligence at machine speed.
