Erin Marasco

Dr. Erin Marasco is a distinguished Research & Development Leader at Cargill, heading the Global Biology group. With a robust background in biotechnology, Erin and her team are at the forefront of innovation in ingredient discovery, strain development, enzyme applications, and metagenomic and microbiome research. Her leadership in developing sustainable, bio-based products aligns with Cargill’s mission to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimize environmental impacts. Their work is pivotal in driving new product development within the agri-food industry, benefiting both Cargill's business enterprises and their customers. With over eighteen years of experience in industrial biotechnology, fermentation strain engineering and biochemistry, Erin has successfully led research teams in developing commercial-scale processes for the sustainable production of ingredients through fermentation and enzymatic processes. Notably, she served as the Global High Intensity Sweetener Technical Lead and played a crucial role in establishing Avansya, a joint venture between Cargill and DSM. Erin holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics from the University of Minnesota.
